Sound Stylistics re-release Deep Funk album

Added on Wednesday 04 April 2007, 22:49 (BST)

For those looking for some funk to listen to whilst Jamiroquai take a break, ex-Jamiroquai band member Mike Smith (saxophone) is featured on a classic funk album that has just been re-issued.  The Sound Stylistics: Play Deep Funk, which was originally recorded in 2002, features artists who have played with bands such as James Taylor Quartet, Incognito, The Brand New Heavies and Snowboy.

More information, samples of the album tracks and links to purchase it are available from the Freestyle Records website.  Samples of all the tracks can be heard at the Groove Attack website.

Funk is great. Incognito is also a great funk band, I haven't really heard the others listed here, but check out some LIVE Matisyahu, he has a couple years worth of shows under his belt and his band is just awesome. Complete shows can be downloaded from

Could i also recommend Mark Ronson's new single and album? Stop Me (the single) is a reworking of an old Smiths track with horns and strings and a wicked bass line (his reworking of Radiohead's Just from last year also follows the same line) and his new album called Version (i think lol!) is out in 2 weeks and has pretty much the same kind of stuff. Though not strictly a funk artist (more of a producer who re-works old tracks and remixes) his stuff is very funky and you may remeber that he did the awesome remix of FJLIS a few years back, adding horns likewise(unlike the Timo Mass one lol). Think Jamiroquai should get him to produce their next album, would make a wicked one with plenty of horns and strings :-D
