Based on Jamiroquai's rising position on the overall UK airplay chart, Music Week wrote:
"A new song, but a vintage Jamiroquai groove, Runaway moves 27-15, a year to the week after their previous single (Don't) Give Hate A Chance peaked at number nine on the list. Runaway had modest support last week from Radio One (12 plays) and Radio Two (five) so has plenty of room for growth. Of 76 other stations playing it last week, its biggest supporters were Kiss 105/108 (31 plays) and its sister stations Kiss 100 FM (30) and Kiss 1010 (29)."
