One of Jay's dogs is unwell

Added on Friday 25 November 2005, 10:41 (GMT)

The following story is printed at the contactmusic.com website, which is taken from today's edition of the Sun newspaper (UK):

Homesick Jamiroquai singer JAY KAY is threatening to cut short his publicity tour of Australia to look after his sick dog.

The funk legend is anxious his terminally ill pooch may not survive his absence promoting new album DYNAMITE down under, and has considered abandoning the project.

He says, "I really want to go home and see my dogs. My German Shepherd is not well."

"He was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and in a month he has deteriorated badly."

"It's difficult. I just want to go home."

It makes me shiver here, I feel sorry for Jay and for his doggie. Good luck and best wishes from switzerland

Take care of your dog firstly Jay! Then you'll break the world with your amazing style! Good luck

Jay, can you fly the dogs over mate ?

Jay! Best wishes to your doggie!

OH NO. SAY IT ISNT TRUE. Ive been waiting my whole life to see the band perform live and I will be shattered if he leaves the country. My concert is next saturday and I will be devistated if it doesnt happen. Jay said its difficult. Well mate life does have its ups and downs and dealing with them is a part of life. Leaving your fans in the dark, who have supported the band for the last 15 years is the wrong chose. I pray your dogs get better but running away from your passion is not going to make anything better. The groove is in your bones and you will never be able to get rid of it. Im not sure if this article is true or ont because I heard many interviews with Jay saying he is thoroughly enjoying live performances and he still gets a buzz, he said himself he has alot to prove.

So please Jay think rationally before you make any serious decisions your going to regret.

Hope the dog gets better. Does anyone know it's name?

i feel so sorry! I had a dog too.
He was 20 years old when he died.

Good luck for your Doggie, Jay! I can imagine that you come back to see how bad it is. Big hugs and best wiches from Germany!

Poor little dog!!!

I hope your dog gets better soon Jay - I know how awful it is when your pet's sick and your not at home - I'm not sure if it's Luger or Titan who is sick but I hope they get better soon :)

SAMANTHA

Good luck for your dog Jay, I also love German Sheperds, I lost mine when he was 15 and it was awful. I prefered to stay at home with him until his last breath, so I can understand what you are feeling at the moment.. go home if you can, and do your next shows later.. I hope Luger or Titan get better soon. Anyway, thanks again for the show you gave us in Lille. I'll never forget !!. Best wishes from France

I lost my dog of 10 years almost a year ago. It was heartbreaking and still is today! I totally understand...Jay Kay should go home and be with his dog if he wants to, he can always make up for the cancelled shows...God Bless Jay and his dogs!

oh, this sounds really bad.. I hope so much for him that his dog gets better... I know how hard it is to loose a friend..and I definitely would go home as well !!
so wish you all the best !!!

i know how he feels,if anything happend to my dog,i would be insane and couldnt smile...i hope jays dog gets well..

I might draw fire with these comments but . . . I hope 'Sir' JK keeps a reality perspective in focus and in priority here.

The dog is not going to improve according to his whereabouts, and if the dog could understand I'm sure he would want 'Sir' JK to continue doing what he does best. What's a stake regarding disappointment, financial loss and bad press for cancellation far outweight the chances of racing to a kennel vigil (if he makes it in time).

'Sir' JK has arranged the best of care, pampering and treatment of the highest standard imaginable for his dogs in his absence. He needs to prepare himself now for the inevitable news by cherishing the memories of his time spent in happier days with his dog. And the people in charge back in Horsendon need to exercise prudence with their 'news flashes', that would be kinder to all.

I love the dogs, greats friends of people and so lovely!

Don´t worry for your dog (Titan or Ludger??) the 12th december you are near he in your house!!!

And ...Don´t forget to all the auatralians fans hope see you in the gig !!!

So sorry to hear that sad news-I don't blame him for wanting to go home. I am a huge animal lover and sometimes they are the best companions you'll ever have! Funny though, I named my 3 year old Golden Retriever JK after our main man. He is the coolest and very handsome! I wish you well Jay-hope you get home in time!

I've lost a dog or two in my lifetime, and though heartbreaking, I don't think its reason enough to abandon a tour. If he were an office employee, he would not get time off to be with his dog. Ultimately, making music and performing is his job, and he needs to do it. Though many of us that post on this website are sympathetic to what he is going through, I don't think the thousands of Australian fans that will be left high and dry will be so accomodating. After all, they have been waiting for YEARS to see Jamiroquai perform. I realize that Jay is getting fed up with the business and with all this touring, but the last thing he needs for his career is to cancel this current tour. What would that say about his committment to his fans? We are committed to him and the band, so the least he can do is show the same to us. I am sorry to say this, but if what the tabloids are saying is true, Jay is acting like a spoiled brat! Toughen up man!

hey jay hang in there... I hope you dog gets better quickly peace

Jay, your dog is priceless. The money you lose from cancelling your tour, does not compare to the love and friendship your doggie has gave you. Remember your dog would be there by yourside when you are sick. He needs you. Now some people might think I'm a nut, but I have a little dog who is my baby, part of the family. Some people think of animals as only pets but then there are people like Jay and myself who see them as being our family members. The best gift you can give your dog, while it is suffering is YOU. You are more important to that dog and can help it better than the best vet treatment.Your true fans will understand and stick by you for leaving.God bless. I will pray for your dog.

Jay, I am so sorry to hear about your dog, its very hard when your best friend gets sick...a couple of years ago, I had a very sick dog, Amber, and I took her to the vet, was just before christmas. She had cancer in her stomach, and I had to put her to sleep. All the way home i had 'You Give Me Something' on repeat, and i was crying my eyes out... every time i hear that song, i still cry, makes me think of her.
You can never replace the unconditional love and devotion that comes from having a dog, they truly do give us something we cannot get from anywhere else.
Take heart Jay, your dog loves you, and if you have to make that terrible decision, as I did, know that he is going to a much better place, free from pain and suffering.
And he will remain in your heart and memories forever...

Tours can be rescheduled and fans can get refunds. Once your dog is gone, he's gone - permanently. If you continue with your tour and your dog dies while on tour, you will regret it for a very long time, thinking, "If only I went back." People who say you shouldn't cancel your tour because of your dog obviously have very different values from you. You've paid your dues and you've entertained millions of people. Music has been your life for 15 years and now you want a different kind of life. You aren't at the beck and call of anyone, not the record company, not the promoters and not even your fans (you've been playing for them for 15 years!). You are your own person and you have your own life and the choice belongs to YOU about how you want to live it.

Azza, after reading your post and Ed's. I have tears in my eyes. My 8 month old rottweiler Bonnie died from poisoning (from a neighbour spraying chemicals near our fence)on xmas day. As hard as we tried to find a vet we couldn't get hold of one and it was too late. :-( What Ed has said is so profound. You're own person Jay and you need to remain true to your own values. Listen to your heart. If it was me and it was my little dog that was sick, I would fly home in a heart beat. Nothing could stop me, even getting sued would be worth it.

Big hugs to all who have lost a doggy friend...
IF IT SHOULD BE
IF IT SHOULD BE THAT
I GROW WEAK,
AND PAIN SHOULD
KEEP ME FROM MY SLEEP,
THEN YOU MUST DO WHAT
MUST BE DONE,
FOR THIS LAST BATTLE
CANNOT BE WON.
YOU WILL BE SAD, I UNDERSTAND,
DON'T LET YOUR GRIEF
THEN STAY YOUR HAND,
FOR THIS DAY MORE THAN
ALL THE REST
YOUR LOVE FOR ME MUST
STAND THE TEST.
WE'VE HAD SO MANY
HAPPY YEARS,
WHAT IS TO COME CAN
HOLD NO FEARS,
YOU'D NOT WANT ME
TO SUFFER SO,
THE TIME HAS COME
PLEASE LET ME GO.
TAKE ME WHERE MY NEED
THEY'LL TEND,
AND PLEASE STAY WITH ME
UNTIL THE END,
HOLD ME FIRM AND SPEAK TO ME
UNTIL MY EYES NO LONGER SEE.
I KNOW IN TIME THAT
YOU WILL SEE
THE KINDNESS THAT
YOU DID FOR ME.
ALTHOUGH MY TAIL
ITS LAST HAS WAVED
FROM PAIN AND SUFFERING
I'VE BEEN SAVED.
PLEASE DO NOT GRIEVE
IT MUST BE YOU.
WHO HAD THIS PAINFUL
THING TO DO,
WE'VE BEEN SO CLOSE,
WE TWO, THESE YEARS
DON'T LET YOUR HEART
HOLD BACK ITS TEARS

after i put my dog to sleep...the Lort Smith Animal Hospital sent me this poem. It made things a little easier.
Cathy, and ED, I wholeheartedly agree, concerts can always be rescheduled, while life, even an animal, is so precious that we can never take it for granted....

if the situation is really bad, and you got to cut up the tour, I think the australian public will understand it...
But I do hope from bottom of my heart that your dog will be getting over through this soon:)

ohhh nooo!! i hope Luger get well. it's really hard when you little dog is sick. I understand how Jay can feel.i love dogs. Jay don't be sad and go with Luger!

are you people for real?
stop living your lives through jay kay.
i know his dog is ill and that's sad but get a grip!!!

Hey Russ, we are allowed to care you know....the world would be a better place if more people did care. Im sure i speak for the majority of Jays fans, we do not live our lives through Jay Kay, he is one of the many passions we all share.....

I was one of the fortunate ones who saw you in action Nov 25 in Melbourne. You blew us all away!
But if your best friend is in need, then go and be with them in their time of need. You've been best mates forever! xxx

Lovely poem Azza. :-)

Er Russ, I don't understand how, the animal lovers on here, feeling sorry for a sick animal and feeling for his owner is considered living our lives through him? Is this because you can't appreciate the value of a dog being something more than just stuck in the yard?

FYI my life doesn't revolve around his personal life, concerts or his music- even though I do appreciate his music. Thank you very much. And his life shouldn't revolve around the whims of his fans.

Reality check- we want him to leave OZ and be totally out of our radar screen, so he can be with his sick dog. YOU on the other hand, I'm assuming wants him to remain here, for your own benefit.

Oh BTW this is my *third post* on the entire board (not to mention the only Jay Kay site I have ever posted on) and considering that the whole three posts are about his dog. If you are observant, you will see, I'm living my life through his dog.:p

hi cathy im from the uk ive seen his show at birmingham, the sound was terrible and i have admired his work up until now and wasted my hard earned money.
I do hope his dog is ok but the intense obsessiveness of most people on here is ludicrous- your all sony's dream.

Hi Russ, a shame about the sound! Perhaps it was the fault of the sound techs? Not that it's an acceptable excuse for your time and money. Maybe a different time and place...go on give them another chance! And besides you can still admire their work, the cd sound is quite good quality. ;-)

I know you want his dog to get better.:-) And yeah fans can get pretty obsessive with their idols, not just Jay Kay's following. Does, Pommie fans and their love of soccer ring any bells? :p lol Anyways, regardless of how heavily their interest may or maybe not be in the band, it's their prerogative. We all have something in common on here, love of good music. :D

Oh yeah, I'm sure Sony must love it, but then so does the money hungry press that elevatated celebrities and royals to fanatical heights in the first place.

Just a quick update here - it's Luger who isn't that well - the poor thing. However, I heard that he's still barking as loud as ever at Jay's house today!

Thanks for all the kind messages being left.

Thank you for the update David! if Luger is barking that's a good sign! I hope this little dog gets well soon.

Hello there,
IM a sick litlle puppy dog from Battersea Dog Home.
IM looking for a new home with reliable an kind owner.
Can I come 2 bark with Luger and Titan preferably when J. is around? I will bring my own collar. ;0)
