OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM STUART ZENDERReasons For Leaving Jamiroquai - 7 October 1998 |
Many different stories may arise from the news that I have decided to leave Jamiroquai, so I've decided to let the public know my version.
After 6+ years of being with the group, I felt the time had come when I should move on. I've always felt that being a team player was vital to any band, and this didn't happen with the group. We were all involved with the writing and production of the music, but at the end of the day, credit was with one person. As our success increased, the monetary splits suddenly decreased. My commitment to the band was never an issue with me, but when you do commit and contribute to the long hours in making an album a success, and the gruelling tours that follow, compensation should be distributed fairly. The decision to leave was not an easy one, as after 6 years friendships have grown. I know there are opportunities out there for me, where I will be recognised for my musical capabilities, but most of all to be part of a team. Melanie and I are eagerly looking forward to the birth of our daughter next month. She has been very supportive in my decision, and we are both going to play an integral part in our daughter's life. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for their dedication and support, and wish Jamiroquai continued success. Stuart Zender |
