Flying website Loop recently wrote about Jay's helicoper lessons in a news story about the England football (soccer) team party that was held last month. The mention of Jay was relating to the launch of a new aerial display team that has recently launched in the UK.
Jamiroquai frontman and student heli pilot Jay Kay flew in to the 2Excel launch with his instructor, Kim Campion from Wycombe-based Heli Air. The star landed his brand new Robinson R44 before taking off in the front seat of Blade 3 with display pilot Myles Garland. LOOP caught up with Jay on the ground. "It was amazing, and really unusual to see three other aircraft so close. I love the Gs! "I flew a trainer jet in Oz recently and then wanted to go to Russia to fly the Su-29 so I could go up to the edge of space. Unfortunately Putin decided that foreigners aren't allowed in Russian planes. It would've been amazing if I'd got to do it." According to instructor Kim, Jay's training is progressing well and he's already completed his first few solo flights. Jay said, "The heli training is going at a slow, steady rate. There's lots to do. It's the most demanding thing, with four different controls to think about. It's a big challenge."The complete story and a photo of Jay can be seen at the Aero website.
