The January 2003 issue of Rhythm magazine (UK) has published the
results of its 2002 Readers Poll and the dynamic duo of Derrick and Sola did
brilliantly finishing second in three awards. Sola came second in the Best
Studio Percussionist, and the magazine wrote "Another excellent result for
Jamiroquai's first lord of the funk means Sola retains his position as one
of the most high-profile contemporary percussionists in the land. Jay
Kay's output just wouldnt be the same without his graciously groovy
contributions." Sola also came second in the Best Live Percussionist
category - "Jamiroquai on-stage are a spectacle worth seeing. Jay
Kay's funky moves are an evenings entertainment in themselves, but
it's the perfect percussion supplied by Sola thats the rhythmic icing on
the gateau." To top this all off, Derrick came second in the Best Funk
Drummer category - "The other half of Jamiroquai's rhythmic tag team,
Derrick's drop-dead funk feel nails down the bands infectious
old-skool-meets-nu-cool tunes. This guy is terrifically tasty and more than
capable of tearing it up when he needs to."
