paparazzi do their (dirty) job. Jason is NOT doing his job: too much drinks, too much glam, and less, less music...at the age of 37, I had to think about his future, and not acting like a teen....

Poor Jay - we all know what the papparazzi are like and he probably just snapped - anyway by now I would think he's probably not feeling very good about it but the damage is done, just hope it doesn't affect the GH coming out - anyway I just hope Jay is okay :)

Unless you're a victim of paparazzi yourself and cope with it better than Jay you have absolutely no right to judge him. What Jay did was unnecessary but also understandable. Errare humanum est.

The legal repercussions won't be too hard if he only abused the paparazzis verbally and bitchslapped one.

Luca, nobody is attacking you. Of course you are free to say that Jay has done a bad thing (it is a bad thing, but also understandable... which doesn't mean it's justified). But you must also accept that people may not agree with you and therefore will argue with no. Arguing is not necessarily attacking.

Jad did something bad. Most of us can understand why he did it. Some of us might do the same thing if we were in his shoes. Sure, the presence of paparazzi is the price of celebrity perhaps... but it doesn't mean it's any easier to cope with the fact that they invade your privacy.

He did something bad and he will face the consequences. That's the price for taking "revenge" on paparazzi on his own.

It sucks he got arrested. Let's just hope he was boozin it up and he wasn't doin any coc. If he had too much to drink and he took it out on the paparazzi, that's easier to stomach. If he was high, then his "high times" aren't over like he claimed them to be (at least his coc-induced high times).
So let's let time tell to see if any more details are given.... at least in terms of his sobriety or lack thereof. Lata y'all.... this kinda buzz-kills things- for him and us both.

Let's be thankful the band wasn't in the middle of a touyr when this happened. Tour datesd might've been cancelled or postponed over this.

Jay is a lovely Guy normally but when he's had a few he gets a bee in his bonnet about a couple of photographers that have given him grief in the last few years.I have personaly spoke to him on a number of occasions and he is charming and very down to earth but some paps do like to wind him up as they know he bites when he's had a few and he should be able to control that by now. Paps wait outside clubs like Kaberet only when we have been told someone is coming or is in , its the sort of place celebs will go to when they have a single or a book or some other plugging motive in mind. I have not taken a picture of Jay for over two years and would not care if I never had to take his picture again but I do admire him from afar.
Waiting for people ouside clubs is a job ,just ask any cab driver, beggar, pap, sniffer dog etc

Ive met J several times and spent time chatting with him and yes he is down to earth and friendly, BUT hes been here b4, he knows the paps antagonise him just for this kind of reaction - how much did the photographer earn for the pics of J being arrested? J has lined the 'enemies' pockets just because he couldn't walk away OR use a different exit (he knows they are waiting for him)- surely he should have learnt that by now. Luca, love the St Jason bit, he'd be the first to laugh at that!!!

Ja is a fool when it comes to the Paparazzi. He is happy to use them when things are to his liking. He has been in the game long enough to know what the paps want and how they will get it. It sounds to me like he was well up for a fight (again) although this time without provocation, which is worrying. He is a gobby litttle so and so, and I have met him many times, sober, drunk, off his head and his ego rules his head. Sorry to all you Ja worshippers, but he is a human being. I admire Ja as much as the next person, but this does nothing to gain respect. It just makes me laugh to recall his preaching about tolerance and his hatred of violence!

I think Jay drink a lot sometimes. I have passed some time with him and he drunk all the night. But never and never he became furious or violent. To the contrary... I think paparazzi would leave famous people free! Jay has just finished an hard work: a lot of gigs, the greatest, the new video and the 2 new tracks. Now he is in London, at home, to relax and enjoy himself. Anf paparazzi don't leave him free to do it!!!

You only have to look at the pics on the WENN site to see that we don't have the whole story here - the man is in tears for God's sake! It was obviously an extremely traumatic incident for him to go through and I don't think we have the right to judge Jay or his actions without being aware of the facts.

I really did not want to believe this because i didn't hear about this anywhere else but as the pixs show it really did happen. And i just heard on Radio 1 that he's still in custody-must mean it's real serious.

They are probably waiting for him to sober up properly before they question him, that's why he is still there.

I wouldn't worry, it's probably all been made up and the pictures created by air-brushing. You know that if it appears in anything like the excuses for papers like the Sun, Mirror or Mail then it's probably fabricated, as they have about as much journalistic integrity as my cat's bottom.

Isn't it funny how these papers constantly ignore how successful and popular Jamiroquai are around the World, but as soon as Jay alledgedly does something like this, it's almost front page news. It's probably because they like listening to Razor ColdPatrol.

The papparazzi will be his enemy for life; a couple of drinks will unleash his inner animal. He's human, and love it!

Anybody who knows Jay will tell you he's a decent guy. The paparazzi guy probably had it coming to him!! He'll say hello, and if you asked for a picture, he's ok about it. But just getting in his face is wrong. For crying out loud, he's been on a world tour, and worked hard on the last album. Add to that, the fact that he's been busy recording music and a video for the singles compilation with promotional work, and you have someone who would be feeling a little tired, and wanting some rest and relaxation. What's more, he's been doing really well to overcome a cocaine addiction. He did that himself, and on no occasion did he sell stories to your redtop rags or Heat magazine about "his drugs hell". If anything, people should be celebrating what he's given to millions of people and achieved, and still achieving, and the likes of the paparazzi should respect his space (Hell, why do you think lots of famous people end up that way in the first place!?). For some time now, he's been feeling good and healthy- if those idiots had any heart, they wouldn't give him that kind of grief.

Also remember that while the pictures don't look good, these people can manipulate things to make it look worse than it actually was (When was the last time the paparazzi took pictures of their own harassing someone!? doesn't happen, does it?), and there's also another side to the story- his, which nobody has heard. Not even as a fan, but after asking myself "How would I feel?", I firmly back Jay's corner on this.

I think we all back Jay - but it's just sad to see him in this state and so angry - I just hope it doesn't get him in too much trouble.

I've just posted some more photos on the forums and it really doesn't look good, you can see him punching the guy in the face - it's not good - but we all want Jay to be his lovely happy self, not some drunk slob of a man who fights his way out of nightclubs.

I just heard about this cos I've been out all day. Just cautioned? Wow, I wish I was famous. I've seen people get a record for way less than that. Still, annoyed or not annoyed, drunk or not drunk it's no excuse to physically abuse people for doing their job no matter how much it annoys you. I get annoyed by airport security people, my boss, my tutors, telemarketers, door sales people and over-enthusiastic blonde anorexic idiots that work in myer but i don't go up and punch them, though i would very much like to. tolerance people tolerance.

Although, looking at the outfit of the policemen, I am not sure whether he was high on anything. If guys dressed like that stood next to me and moved, I'd probably get an epileptic seizure, too*lol*

Ok what he did might not be right but i hate the way the media is reporting the whole thing, particularly the fact that the paps were waiting for Lindsey Lohan-yeah right they want to take a pix of any celeb coming out. If their cameras were off then how did they manage to get pixs of the whole thing? And the vid going round of it-doesn't it seem they wound him up and they were all set upto capture it? And the articles Samantha did a great job of finding are so biased (wouldn't have read them if they weren't posted on the forums). The eyewitness all described what Jay was saying as a load of garbage-I actually found the "Are you Italian" comment followed by a slap quite funny lol. All i've heard on the radio today is that the tabloids are mocking him, along the lines of he punched the photographer for no reason because they weren't waiting for him but for Lindsey Lohan and got himself arrested and put in a cell all nite for no reason ha ha ha. So what if he made a mistake? He's only human. And if they really were waiting for that Lindsey why aren't their any pix of her (if there are please correct me and i withdraw the last comment)I don't justify what he did or that he got off so lightly but to mock his behaviour as if he is an extemly stupid person angers me cos he ain't. If he was then why's he so highly talented? If there's anybody mentioned in these reports to be called stupid its probaly Lindsey Lohan cos she just falls into the same camp of people like Paris Hilton. It looks like the paps got shedloads of photos (must've paid well) of Jay fighting but just one of Linday Lohan.

But I guess the photo of Linday in a taxi wearing a short skirt and no knickers was pretty lucrative too.

Firstly, as much of a fan of Jamiroquai and Jay Kay as I am, I can't advocate violence, as I of all people believe that violent crime should be far more severely punished than it is at present.

However, if I was Jay and came out of a nightclub to find the pepperami waiting for Miss Lohan and not me, I'd be slightly narked that an average actress who happens to be quite attractive, but who has not achieved a great deal, is receiving more attention from the English press than me. Especially considering that my band and I have written unbelievable songs, have sold tens of millions of albums and have packed out stadia around the World for well over 10 years, having a longevity which is virtually unknown in the modern music industry.

I have a certain amount of sympathy, and could find excuses for his drunken behaviour, once drunk you can't be blamed for a million stupid things that you are likely to do. The only way to stay safe, is NEVER EVER NEVER EVER drink when it has this effect on you, 'Sir' JK should realize this once and for all, even though it maybe a little late.

I have seen the pictures, someone left me a copy of Tuesday evenings "London Lite" newspaper on my desk at work for me (I've been away most of this week) which featured Jay on the front page, and all of page 3...ouch! And this was just one paper.

Hmn, yes he's harrassed by the press and they seemed to leave him alone when he kicked the coke habit a few years back but this episode has really kicked things off again. No matter what people are saying, you're in the public eye and the 'paps' live off of coverage like this. I feel that there's no real excuse for the behaviour - especially in public.

OK, we've only seen whatever footage was on TV or online, but there's not much from what I have seen that defends Jay's point of view.

Sharon and I also wonder what the situation is/was with his minders. Where's Mark when you need him. He'd be able to get Jay into a people-carrier car no trouble. Were the guys in the video from the nighclub? When you go out for a few drinks in London do you really need both a driver and a bodyguard. Questions questions...

I don't know...its just upsetting to see this kind of coverage once again.

I'm guessing that there will be some very strict guidelines given in advance of the interviews that will take place before the release of the new single/album.
