Dubai press conference without Jay

Added on Thursday 13 April 2006, 07:24 (UTC)

Gulfnews.com has printed a story and photo (of Derrick, Rob and Sola) from a press conference ahead of Thursday's concert in Dubai.

Jamiroquai turned up one-and-a-half hours late for a press conference at the Mall of the Emirates.  Imagine then my disappointment when they announced lead singer Jay Kay was not coming due to "jet lag". The anti-climax prompted some media to leave and those who stuck it out were so disenchanted it meant the whole Q&A shebang lasted all of 15 minutes.

With Jay was being there, the questions were directed at the other band members (I don't believe Matt or Paul were there [photo]) and Derrick was asked by the reporter about the greatest hits album...

I ask the band how they will celebrate when their greatest hits album is released in November, finally freeing them from their eight-album contract with Sony after 14 years.

McKenzie answers: "We'll celebrate by making more music. We'll get started on new tunes and we'll keep on writing."

The full article can be read at the Gulnews.com website.

Now, here's a thought.  This concert is headline sponsored by Nokia in advance of the release of their new N91 mobile phone which is launched in the Middle East next week.  Where does this sit with the Sony Ericsson sponsorship deal...
